Belgian Congo in the First World War
In contrast to France and the United Kingdom, no colonial troops fought in Belgium during the war. Nevertheless the Congolese Force Publique played an important role in the mostly forgotten East-African Campaign. It conquered Rwanda and Burundi and helped seize Tanzania from the Germans. Between combat and disease, the indigenous soldiers suffered many casualties. Their contribution to the Allied victory has been mostly forgotten today.
